History

Origin

Kaleidoscope was created from a joint effort by the Junior League of Lynchburg and the Chamber. 2010 marks its 36th year.

Facts

  • The first Kaleidoscope Festival took place in 1975 during the last two weeks in September.
  • Kaleidoscope now covers the entire month of September.
  • Kaleidoscope averages 35 events each festival.
  • Event holders benefit from the thousands of dollars in advertising under Kaleidoscope's banner.
  • Your event can benefit from our market-wide advertising campaign, which includes TV, radio, newspaper, 25,000 brochures, street banners, area magazines, and the web, for only $45.

Purpose

The purpose of Kaleidoscope is to organize, market and promote an annual festival that celebrates our community's unique quality of life. Kaleidoscope offers exceptional recreational, cultural, educational and entertainment opportunities that appeal to a broad spectrum of the community.

The Kaleidoscope Board is comprised of local citizens, who serve as its directors. Each director is a volunteer representing a different segment of the community.

The Directors meet monthly to plan, promote and coordinate the festival.

The Board serves as a marketing vehicle for anybody interested in holding an event in the Region 2000 area.

The Board does not run the individual events, rather, we provide an elevated exposure for events (especially the smaller ones) that might not get as much coverage on their own.
